A foundation of faith
In basketball, you have to get low in order to have strength and balance. The power comes from your legs, and the solid ground gives you a firm foundation to stand on. However, sometimes staying low can burn, my coach, says that the moment you stand up you’ve been beaten, and the low man wins. If you don’t stand strong you will get tossed around and trampled on. When we are low and close to our firm foundation we have more strength. The same thing goes for our faith. (Ephesians 4:14)
Standing strong in our faith during times when faith seems like the last resort, can be difficult. 2020 in general has been very chaotic, full of things that make us doubt and become anxious. If we do not stand strong we will fall, if we do not stand strong why stand at all?
There are many times that the Bible that commands us to ‘stand firm.’ Here are a few!
Bible verses about standing firm
If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.
Isaiah 7:9
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews 12:2
They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.
Isaiah 61:3
Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes
Ephesians 6:10-11
Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens. Your faithfulness continues through all generations; you established the earth, and it endures. Your laws endure to this day, for all things serve you
Psalm 119:89-91
God’s word stands firm and His promises never fail. They haven’t in the past and they won’t stop now. This season is filled with many anxieties and things that can drown out our view of Jesus. But we must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus’ face. We must hold fast to the truth of God’s word because at the end of the day that is the only thing that will remain.
It is easy to try to reach out to comfortable things to cope with the change we are experiencing. But I have recently been asking myself, where do I run when I am are uncomfortable? What do I hold on to? What do I stand firm in? These are important questions to ask, because when the going gets tough, and will you be able to stand firm?
progress
In times when everything seems to be going wrong, we can rest in the shadow of the Almighty! In this blog post, I was able to take the Bible verses and creatively use lettering to display their truth and beauty. This was a refreshing blog post to write. I wrote it to encourage others, but I myself was encouraged along the way!
reflection
2020 has been a year full of confusion and anxiety. And when we run to the things of this world to give us peace and satisfy our hearts, they will always leave us feeling empty and alone. BUT GOD, promises us real peace and true joy through Jesus Christ. He does not say that everything will be easy, if not a question of if we will struggle but when. In John 16:33 Jesus says we WILL have trouble, but we can take heart because He has overcome the world!
